The magazine Vibe has a picture of an artist 'Eminem' on the center of the page so that it would stand out and catch the eyes of the audience. There is a lot of text around the one picture, normally if there is only one picture and a large amount of texts it would look unbalanced. But, because the picture is large and in the center of the page, it looks neat rather than messy. The reason why the picture takes most of the space is because that he is one of the most famous artists and also there is a topic in the magazine that relates to the artist .The alignment for Vibe is set out on the both left and right hand side of the front cover. This is done to even out the text on even side. The image of the artist is emphasized because he is in the center of the front cover and because the image is very large. The artist facial expression looks intimidating and mean to show that he is serious. The contrast between the black and red text makes it stands out which would appeal to the audience. The red text is used to show the artists passion that they have for music and possibly also to show anger which is portrayed on the artist's face on the front cover. The text 'Eminem Comes Clean' relates to the image because the picture of the artist is Eminem. As you can see the artist is wearing a black vest which could represent power, evil and mystery. Also, judging the way the clothes that he is wearing and the several tattoos on his body, it could suggest that he grew up in the slums and also represents and promotes youth culture. The artist is also wearing a cross which may possibly show that he is a Christian. The colours black and red has been used to represent power and strength which is shown by the facial expression of the artist. On the front cover, there is a image of one artist which could represent that he is alone. The genre of the magazine relates to the image because the image shows one of the most famous artists in rap and hip-hop, which would appeal to the target audience.A number of linguistic devices have been used on the front cover such as rhetorical question which has been used twice. The rhetorical question and a personal pronoun 'who is the best rapper ever? you decide' has been used in this text to make the reader question themselves and would also make the reader curious to know who. The personal pronoun 'you decide' makes the reader feel more included and would also give the audience the chance to vote who they feel the best rapper is. This would encourage the audience to read that specific page to read more information about it and learn how to vote. Another rhetorical question has been used in the front page 'Are the roots too black for Jimmy Fallon', which is used again to question the reader on what does it mean by the terms 'too black' an would encourage the reader to read that specific page. The genre of the magazine is shown many times on the front page such as the picture of the famous artist Eminem who does rap and hip-hop. Also, there is a list of rap and hip-hop artist on the right hand of the page. And the rhetorical question also suggests the genre of the magazine 'who is the best rapper ever?'.
