Magazine Mock

Magazine Research 3

The word new has been added in the masthead of the magazine to let the audience know that this is the latest
vibe magazine out in stores. The colour being used on the magazine is black, yellow and white which is used to make it stand out and more appealing to the audience. The banner on the top of the page shows the audience what other artists are going to be featured in the magazine. The masthead of the magazine is in a bold white font which is used to make it stand out. The image links to the tag line, 'Drake Hip-Hop's New religion'. The artist's name 'Drake' is in a big font so that the audience is focused on that and also helps them recognized the artist. The shows an artist formerly known as Drake which people who do keep up with the Hip-Hop trends should know straight away. The artist is wearing a black cap and a black plain t-shirt with the logo going across his shirt. The bar code pug is advertising and also promoting the magazine's website which is vibe.

The colour being used on the magazine is sliver, grey and black which goes well with the artist who is wearing a silvery/grey clothing. Also, another reason why they chose this colour scheme is because they wanted to make the artist stand out more so that he will attract the audience. The heart of the artists stands out because it is in red which would attract and appeal to the audience. The title 'contents' have been placed in a unique and unusual way which is done to make it stand out and also show individualism. There is a lot of different types of fonts being used to make the page more unique and professional. The big letter 'V' is used in the background to promote it as the magazine's logo.

The image of the artist in the image is used to show her dress to audience so that the audience can see how nice the dress is. Being stereotypical, I think that the image of the artist attracts mostly the male audience because of how beautiful she looks. The heading of the article is done in a quite a clever way by all the font of the title is in grey except her name which is in blue. This is done to make it stand out in the audience and also to let the audience know what the article is about. The style to the type of writing is used in the article to make it more professional and also like a newspaper article which gives in some form of creativity. The series of pictures that have been taken of the artist in the background is used to show the emotions of the artist which is shown by her body language.

Rap/Hip-Hop magazine analysis 2- Double page spread

The double page spread of The Source shows a image of the rapper The Game wearing a white tank top in a dark background to possibly represent the artist as being alone and his life is dark and scary. The facial expressions of the artist are intimidating  and his knuckles are almost clenched together which shows his is violent.
As you can see the background of the double page is black which makes it easier  for the audience to read the text on the left hand side of the page. The contrast between the black background and the white and yellow text makes it easier for the audience to read, also it helps it to make it stand out. The alignment of the text is on the left hand side of the double page spread to make it balanced and easier to read for the audinece  .The quote on the left hand side is linked with the image of the rapper beause the quote was said by himself. Also, tattoo on his body promotes youth culture. On the last 5 lines the colour of the text changed from white to yellow to show importance to it by making it stand out to the audience. Personal pronoun is being used on the left hand side of the page 'I WOULD NOT ADVISE ANYONE...'; this is used to make the audience feel more involved and personal. The genre rap/hip-hop links to the double page spread because the genre 'hip-hop' has been mentioned on the page once and the image on the right hand side of the page is a rapper called The Game.

Rap/Hip-Hop magazine analysis 1- Double Page Spread

The double page spread of the magazine vibe has an image of eminem in a butchers apron with blood on the apron and his face. He’s holding a knife and to the right of him is the same sub-heading from the cover, yet it is extended abit more. the subheading being ‘I almost died, but I carried on using’.
The fact the magazine has gone fron the from the front of the magazine saying one part and then adding onto it then finally adding onto the rest of it with the story in the magazine. There is not a lot of text on the page the main focus is the image of eminem, yet the page looks quite messy because of the fact that he takes over half of the page with his image, yet to the specific class of this magazine which would be its look very easy to read relaxing magazine so it would enhance them to buy it. The way the text is written on the double page spread is not balanced and it looks messy. The text is on all one page or spread across the bottom of the page. Also there is only one quote, usually on a music magazine there is more then one to keep the reader interested so they look for the rest of the information.

Rap/Hip-Hop magazine analysis 2- Content page

The background of the contents page is a picture of a famous rapper callled ice cube. The back ground has 2 different colours which ithe first half is normal and the second half is red. The reason that this is done is because to make it stand out comapared top to other magazines and also to make it easier for audience to read the white text. The alignment of the page is on the right hand side of the page. This is done to make it easier for the audience to read the white font. This also makes the text well balanced. The contast between the red background and the white font is done to make it stand out. The image of the rapper ice cube ios wearing a hood in the background and also the rapper looks intimidating. The reason that this is done is to show that he is serious and also violent too. The image in the background links to the target audience and the genre because that is the image of a rapper known as Ice Cube who was one of the famous rappers in the music industry. The subtitles of the magazine on the right hand side is in a bold white font to make it stand out to the audience and catch their eyes.  The genre of the magazine is shown of the image of Ice cube in the background of the contents page.

My Magazine Planning

Target Audience

For my magazine research task, I have been analysing rap/hip-hop magazines. The reason that I have chosen this specific genre is because that I, personally, enjoy listening to this type of music, so therefore, my music magazine will be based on this specific Genre. The target of the audience of my magazine is aimed at mostly teens at the age 16+ and possibly people in their early 20s because from what I of, most people similar to my age group or older enjoy listening to rap/hip-hop and also some people were inspired to do rap/hip-hop from many popular artists. The reason that I didn’t chose people at an old age as my target audience is because that they would much rather listen to classical music or possibly rock music. Also, they would not be fond of the appearance of the artists because the clothing that they were is revealing and the artist may have several tattoos on their body. And so therefore, this type of genre would not be suitable or appropriate to people at an old age and also children too. And so therefore, my target audience is aimed at teens at the age of 16 and older because they’re fond of the appearance of the artists and so they would dress the same clothes as them. To make my magazine seem more appealing to the audience, I must include some of the popular artists of rap/hip-hop such as Eminem, 50 cent, The Game and many more. The reason that I chose these artists is because that they're more likely to attract the audience.

Magazine Masthead Ideas

-Krank It Up
This word 'Krank' is a colloquial term for 'turn', I came up of this idea by, from personal experience, when I am listening to music, I would turn the volume up to feel the full effect of the music.

-The Rap Game
The genre of my magazine is on Rap/Hip-Hop and by using this as my magazine title, my audience would instantly know that the genre of my magazine is on Rap/Hip-Hop.

- Pure Genius
The reason that I have chosen this masthead as one of my ideas is because that the lyrics that some rappers say relates to the audience and also amazes them.

Contents Page Ideas

For my contents page, I will use an medium shot of an image on the left hand side of the page. The title content will be presented in a unique and unusual way, simiar to this contents page:

On the right hand side of the page, there will be a list of content features with the page numbers right next to it.The types of articles that will be featured in my Rap/Hip-Hop magazine will include:

- Interview from the young rapper AJ Page 3-4
- Chance to win tickets for concerts Page 5-6
- The top 10 best rappers in the world Page 7-8
- Interview with Eminem Page 9-10
- Kendrick Lamar's new song Page 11-12

House Style

Rap/Hip-Hop magazine content page 1

The big 'V' in the background of the page represents the magazine's logo, which is used to promote their logo and is also used to fill up the page, so that it does not look empty. The layout of the word 'contents' is presented in a unique way to make it stand out from several other magazines. The alignment for this page is in columns on the right hand side of the page which has been put into two categories to make it easier for the audience to read. The text and the image is quite balance which makes the content page look neat and not clattered. The red background may represent passion that artists have towards their music. Also, the white font makes a nice contrast against the red background because it makes the white font stand out.The image of the artist is topless showing his tattoos, wearing expensive pieces of jewellery around his neck and on his teeth, and also wearing his cap backwards. All of these things represent and promote youth culture and wealth. The background colour of the page is red, which represents anger. This is connected to the artist because as you can see, the artist portrays anger by pulling off his jewellery. The text 'the future of rap' links to the image because the image of the model is an artist. Also the subtitle 'fashion' again links to the image because the appearence of the model is in style and modern. the subtitle 'features' lets the audinece to know exactly what is in the magazine   The genre of the music magazine is being shown by the model wearing chains and tattoos which would relate to this music genre. Also, the text 'the future of rap' refers to genre of the music genre which is rap/hip-hop.

Rap/Hip-hop Magazine Analysis 2- Front Page

The picture of the artist takes up most of the space in the magazine because the artist is one of the most popular artist in the world. The alignment for The source is set on both the left and right hand of the side of the cover. This is done to even out the text of the magazine. The image of the artist is hugely emphazied because the aritst is possibly is the most talked about artist in the music industry. The balance emphazises the image by the image itself us surrounded by text. The unusual layout of the masthead is done to show indivuiduality and it helps it to stand out more compared to other magazines. The contrast between the colour red and white helps the magazine stand out and it also makes it easier for the audience to read the white and black text. The image of the artist on the front cover is called 'The Game', which is linked to the text 'GAME TIME' which is a pun. As you can see, the artist is wearing a baseball cap which part of youth culture and also the tattoo on his face and neck also promotes youth culture. The colour black and red represents power. The genre links to image because the image on the front cover is called 'The Game' who is one of the famous artists in the music industry. The text 'GAME TIME' is a pun which is used to link with the picture of the artist on the front cover. The genre rap/hip-hop links to the magazine because there is a picture of an rapper on the cover page.

Rap/Hip-hop Magazine Analysis 1- Front Page

The magazine Vibe has a picture of an artist 'Eminem' on the center of the page so that it would stand out and catch the eyes of the audience. There is a lot of text around the one picture, normally if there is only one picture and a large amount of texts it would look unbalanced. But, because the picture is large and in the center of the page, it looks neat rather than messy. The reason why the picture takes most of the space is because that he is one of the most famous artists and also there is a topic in the magazine that relates to the artist .The alignment for Vibe is set out on the both left and right hand side of the front cover. This is done to even out the text on even side. The image of the artist is emphasized because he is in the center of the front cover and because the image is very large. The artist facial expression looks intimidating and mean to show that he is serious. The contrast between the black and red text makes it stands out which would appeal to the audience. The red text is used to show the artists passion that they have for music and possibly also to show anger which is portrayed on the artist's face on the front cover. The text 'Eminem Comes Clean' relates to the image because the picture of the artist is Eminem. As you can see the artist is wearing a black vest which could represent power, evil and mystery. Also, judging the way the clothes that he is wearing and the several tattoos on his body, it could suggest that he grew up in the slums and also represents and promotes youth culture. The artist is also wearing a cross which may possibly show that he is a Christian. The colours black and red has been used to represent power and strength which is shown by the facial expression of the artist. On the front cover, there is a image of one artist which could represent that he is alone. The genre of the magazine relates to the image because the image shows one of the most famous artists in rap and hip-hop, which would appeal to the target audience.A number of linguistic devices have been used on the front cover such as rhetorical question which has been used twice. The rhetorical question and a personal pronoun 'who is the best rapper ever? you decide' has been used in this text to make the reader question themselves and would also make the reader curious to know who. The personal pronoun 'you decide' makes the reader feel more included and would also give the audience the chance to vote who they feel the best rapper is. This would encourage the audience to read that specific page to read more information about it and learn how to vote. Another rhetorical question has been used in the front page 'Are the roots too black for Jimmy Fallon', which is used again to question the reader on what does it mean by the terms 'too black' an would encourage the reader to read that specific page. The genre of the magazine is shown many times on the front page such as the picture of the famous artist Eminem who does rap and hip-hop. Also, there is a list of rap and hip-hop artist on the right hand of the page. And the rhetorical question also suggests the genre of the magazine 'who is the best rapper ever?'.

Practice Research Music Magazine

Layout

The magazine, Kerrang has an equal amount of pictures and text. This is because if there was not an equal amount then the magazine will look disorganised. The alignment for Kerrang is set out on the left hand side of the magazine, this is because it keeps everything in order and in line. The image of the man in the middle is emphasised because he is the tallest in the picture and this will catch the readers eye.The contrast between the four men is that one is wearing a mask because the magazine is trying to maybe make the men stand out, also some of the men are showing different emotions so it shows maybe they different type of people and not the same. This has an effect on the reader because the layout is the most important feature of the magazine and if the layout does stand out then the reader is more likely to buy the magazine.

Image

The cover title ‘K!Awards’ could suggest that the men in the middle of the page are all music stars and are in for a chance to win an award. The top third of the magazine shows that all five men are spread out and not contained together which shows that they have some freedom within the magazine. The colour red at the bottom of the page represents anger which is being by the middle man who is expressing his feelings looking angry. The main man in the middle shows his anger and this could be targeted towards also the audience because he has his fist closed as if he was going to punch someone. The guy with the long hair looks more happy as he has his thumbs up and has a huge smile on his face which makes the audience feel as if he is pleased with them.

Language

Wish you were here?’ is a rhetorical question which has been used on the magazine. This is used to make the reader want to continue on reading through the rest of the magazine.  The words ‘8 page special’ stands out because the colour of the text is yellow, which stands out to audience and would make the audience to that specific page. The images link to text because the 5 people above are possibly part of a Rock band could attend to the ‘K!AWARDS’ and maybe nominated for a award. The title ‘Kerrang’ looks like its been smashed which relates to the picture because the guy in the middle looks like he is going to punch something which goes back to the title looking how it does. This also says that maybe the magazine links to violence.

Genre

The genre of the magazine is Rock. this is shown through the cover title of the magazine Kerrang which is based on rock music . Also the men in the middle of the page, the look aggressive and are wearing black clothing which relates to Rock music.
